Hey Everyone, My name is Joe, and I recently sent in my membership to your club. I am very much looking forward to joining you guys for the trail ride on the 19th (with my brother Ron and his Jeep - also a new member), but wanted to ask a few questions to make sure I/(we) had all the required equipment before the run (as shown on the website). I was talking with Pat about it earlier (seems we are almost neighbors!) but haven't received a response from him in about a week (is he away or is his email down??) and wanted to make sure I get my order in in time to have everything ready for the 19th. Anyway, my questions were: 1) I already have a fire estinguisher in my Jeep but it is only rated B & C - not A (like most I found on the web). Is that acceptable? 2) I will probably have a co-pilot from time to time (wife, father, friend or brother-in-law) - depending on who is available and wants to join me on that particular day. Is it ok if they come and do I have to ask permission before they join us? 3) Has anyone had any experience communicating using those hand held CB's (multi channel) with real CB radios? Do they run the same frequencies/channels? Thanks for your help! P.S. Did anybody notice the website is down today? Joe 2004 Rubicon l______ /l_ [_\_\], l---L -OlllllllO- `V _ V __ V ()_)-()_)----)_)

congrats on joining the club! pat recently broke the LSD in her cherokee, so i don't know how much we will see of her. i don't know about the fire extinguisher, but i am sure that someone can give advice there. you can bring anyone you wish with you in your jeep, i always have random friends come along. i have heard that handheld cbs work fine, but i would check the range on it. on the trail we stay pretty close together, but sometimes on the way from the meeting spot to the trail head we can get kinda spread out. we usually run channel 4, so as long as you can get that, you should be all set there. what brand/model is it? i just checked the website, and it worked for me, www.baystatejeepers.com. not sure what's going on there. p.s. people seem to check the board in the late evening and early morning, so i would expect a bunch more responses later today...

Thanks. The CB's (supposedly) have a 6 mile range so we should be all set there. When I sold my old YJ, I left the CB installed in it since I wasn't sure if I would want to drill into my new baby, take up any VALUABLE interior legroom or add an antenna mount that will rust if I didn't have too...
That's great you can take anyone you want too! My unsuspecting passengers will be thrilled!
Hope to see you on the 19th...
JOE

Joe, welcome to the club. First off, Pat is a "she" Not sure about the CB having a 6 mile range. I've had several cb's on a few different jeeps and I've never had that kind of range. Maybe in a desert or something, but not a new england forest! Mine usually ranges about 1-2 miles... I would assume a hand held would reach even less then that. I'm not sure about the extinguisher... Might not be a bad idea to pick one up rated for A, B and C... I bet walmart has them pretty cheap. Copilots are fine... just don't forget to sign the waiver at the beginning of the day, which probably technically covers any passengers. Post some pics of your jeep in the introductions page.... so we can get to know you more! KEVIN

;D Hi Joe, and welcome!
The handheld cb is fine as long as YOURS functions. Communication is key on the trails. Passengers are fine as well, and you don't need permission for them to come along. However, you MUST get permission from the Director of Trails to ask another Jeep to come along....this is merely for safety and we must give members first dibs if it is a limited number allowed run. You understand, members pay, guests do not. I don't believe that there is a rating requirement on your extinguisher as long as it functions. Our cold winters tend to do a number on the plastic nozzled ones, you may want to get a metal one.
More importantly are; Tow hooks...properly attatched front and rear, full sized spare, first aid kit, CB must work, straps are always a good idea, no metal hooks on the ends. Winch is good, but not required.
What color is your rubi? My hubby, Doug...current DOT, says you can join as long as it's not the color of my rubi! LOL Electric Lime green, Pearlcoat!
BTW, Pat did have trouble with her Cherokee the last run, I'm hoping she has it fixed, and will be joining us in November. Speaking of which, it is potluck...crock pots are ok as we drop off at a bank in the a.m. to plug in. Feel free to post in the thread...Whatcha bringnig?
The November run can be brutally cold, especially if it starts raining like last year....bring enough clothes! See you then!

Oops! Very sorry, Pat! Didn't know you were a "she". (wasn't that a Saturday Night Live skit...?) My sincere apologies... Anyway, I will get a picture up on the intro as soon as I can get a good one. My Ruby is pretty much stock right now, but I have high hopes! Also, it is khaki, so you don't have to worry about two electric lime green ones...so am I in? As for the other requirements, I should be all set. I have all the other things listed on the web in addition to hi-lift jack with winch kit and air compressor that I got for the last Jeep Jamboree I was on. Is there anyone from the club that went to last years Charlemont Jamboree? (I was there and may recognize a few of you....). I had my old green YJ then... As for the potluck, my wife has a pretty good recipe for stuffed peppers in a crock pot. Will see if I can bring that. Thanks for the info and hope to meet you all soon. Joe

Speaking of the next run...
Kelly, Kev, Doug, ... I assume that we're meeting at the bank in Sturbridge at 8:30-9am like last year? I still get the BSJ member list emails but obviously don't get the newsletter this year. Let me know what's going on as far as time goes. Also, my nephew just bought a 2005 TJ "X" (another yellow one to boot). He just lifted it last weekend and he's borrowed my 33's. He was looking to join a club, so I'd like to take him along for his first club run. I brought him up to where we are going a couple of months ago and he did pretty well with his 225/75's, so he'll be all set with 33's. Naturally, I'll make sure he has everything else he needs.
Thanks guys, Joe

I'll tell you, but you will get an e-mail....trying to keep all this other important info "confidential" as this is a public forum, and you are not in the members only section.... :0) So, does this mean the swedish meatballs are coming? ! I'd rather see you, but the meatballs will do just fine!

Come on, tell the truth...you'd rather see the meatballs. What ever happened to Baystate's "open door policy"? I take one year off and everything goes to hell....
Anyway, cool, drop me an email. I just finished patching my YJ back together so I'm ready to go. I actually put the hardtop on this year so Alex can stay warm. Next year he'll be 2, so I can leave it off and he'll be ok to freeze for a while. It will make a man out of him.
It's funny you guys are talking about a welding class. I just booger welded my frame back together after a beating at MaBell (i.e. Poison Spyder Customs comp stinger bumpers work!). You can use my welding as an example of how not to weld. At least I used a real welder this time instead of car batteries.
I'm not sure if Angie will go on the trail ride. Alex is still too young to get bounced around. Michaela on the other hand...she's already been behind the wheel of the YJ and does pretty well for a 10 yr old.
Anyway, I await your email...
Joe

I beleive Joe just said Sturbridge. He did not say anything specific about the place where we have the potluck. I think he's still ok KEV

I can do meatballs but only if Angie makes them. Joe would probably add in a ring gear for taste.

Don't worry guys, I know forum policy. Not that it makes a difference to where we are going as I feel it's already been abused by others. I helped put a stop to that back in the spring time though. That's why I said let "me" know (i.e. PM or email) whats going on. Kodi, you assumed I meant replying via post. You will pay the price for your lack of vision! Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the dark side! Anyway, now that I've hyjacked Joe's post. Hey Joe, "where you going with that gun in your hand?" Joe replied, "I'm going down to shoot my old lady, 'cause I caught her messin' 'round with another man..." Joe, you'll be ok with a decent handheld. Heck, you'll probably have better reception than me as my antenna is zip tied to my cage. Forget the meatballs. Put a fork in me, I'm done---
