I know there are a couple places on the Cape that you can purchase a pass and wheel the dunes. Just wondering if anyone has done it and was it worth it?
Going to be there for a week, wanted to check out what dune riding was like.

I think Don has done it as well? Ddewar on here.
If you go onto NEOW there are many that have done it. Some interesting problems can occur. Seek out Wildman over there, he can answer tons of questions on it, as he lives down there and goes frequently.

Never wheeled the beach down the cape, but hit the beaches on the Outer Banks in North Carolina at least once a year. What can I say - no permits needed, no interaction with any government agency at all, except occasional signs telling you to stay off the dunes, and others warning that nude sunbathing is not legal. Going to be there for a week, wanted to check out what dune riding was like. Big difference between dune riding and driving the beach. Dune riding is illegal everywhere that I've looked in to. We used to drive Jeeps and tracked vehicles on the dunes at Ft Story, VA, but then when you're wearing camouflage you can get away with a lot in the name of training.

As far as I know you still cannot drive on the Dunes! They closed dune riding in the late 70s maybe early 80s. You can drive inside the breakwall or at some points on the waters edge. NOT on the dunes. Still a very nice expirence and if you fish, yoy can have a blast ! FjR68

I went a couple of years ago. It was pretty cool. Stupid piping plovers close most of the trails because they like to nest in the middle of the sand, so in the end it wasn't really worth it. I'm glad I did it, but in the future I'd check to see how many trails are actually open before going.
