Got this over the weekend... One broken cover bolt, two cross threaded. Extracted the broken, cleaned up the two cross threaded holes with a chaser. Pressure washed. Can you guess what the donor truck is?

Can you guess what the donor truck is? '87-'90 XJ Cherokee Dana44 rear.

Nope, not mine. My XJ has a Dana35. My YJ has a XJ Dana44 though. I just took an educated guess.

'87-'90 XJ Cherokee Dana44 rear. Right on Joe! Your educated guess probably based on the locations of spring perches and shock mounts?

Right on Joe! Your educated guess probably based on the locations of spring perches and shock mounts? Yes. Also, bolt pattern, width, and backing plates. I also have an early CJ5, FSJ, XJ, and TJ Dana 44's to compare to.

Kai - yours is a lot cleaner than the one I have collecting dust in my garage! ;D
Where did you find it?

Hey Kai -
In the latest issue of JP, in the back, there is a short blurb which says that '92-'96 Crown Victoria rear disc brakes will bolt up to the XJ D44 rear axle...
They also mention that the Crown Vic backing plate is 0.050 smaller than the XJ drum backing plate and recommend a shim.

Thanks Jon! I have to say this unit is very clean with minimal rust. Only a few minor cover bolt issues. I found it on Craigslist.
Thanks for the JP reference...The only thing I don't like about the CV rear disc is the calipers are facing opposite direction. I like the late '90 Explorer brakes better. The only mod is to elongate back plate holes a little. I will also need two spacer rings from Tera to bolt everything up to get proper pre-load.

Makes me wonder if WJ/ZJ discs would bolt up... I know the ZJ D35 disc brake backing plates bolted up to my C8.25 with only minor work to open up the backing plates to fit over the C8.25 tubes.

I don't know about WJ but the ZJ backing plate holes don't line up with the D44 at all. Agreed, many people use ZJ brakes on C8.25 with only minor mod.
