On my way to work this morning I stopped at the ATM... Opened the door and <sniff> <sniff> -- diesel! Sure enough I found the WK's fuel system is leaking (again)! Dropped it off at the Jeep dealer in Nashua and got a rental (a Chevy POS, but it is free)... Waiting to hear back from them. JW

That sucks man. At least it happened on the way to work and not on the way home from Moab. Although in a pinch, I'm sure the XJ could have pulled the Grand home. Keep us in the loop on the repair. I wonder if it's poopty rated O rings. Diesel fuel can really do weird things to non-rated hoses, etc. I used standard 1/4" line on the injector returns of my 6.2L. The next day, all the 1/4" line swelled to the size of a Ball Park Frank. Lesson learned - get diesel rated hose.

Actually, the morning we left Moab it was leaking and I fixed it in the hotel parking lot...
Just got a call from the Jeep dealer. They are going to replace the fuel injector return line. Parts are 3-4 days away...
The problem isn't the hoses themselves leaking -- the fittings that connect the return line to the fuel bypass ports are what leaks. There is a t-fitting which connects the return line to the flanged injector output -- the fitting comes loose and the fuel leaks around the flanges. I assume they are using hose that is rated for diesel... We'll find out.
I've been doing research on this issue -- it is pretty rare, but a service tech on another forum said he's seen it and the injector return line is what should be replaced. I told the dealer I wanted the return lines replaced when I dropped it off -- that may have helped too. On one of the other forums someone commented that a 5-star Chrysler dealer has to have service techs trained on all the different engine types, including the diesel. When I asked this morning about that they indicated they have diesel trained techs (they are a 5-star dealer), but this is the only Jeep diesel they have worked on.

Another update... Apparently the new return line came in. While they were installing it the tech decided that one of the O-rings (that seals the return from the injector) is bad... They can't just replace the O-ring -- they had to order a new injector. Unfortunately, they don't think the injector will come until Monday... They tell me my rental coverage is only 5 days and I'll have to pay extra days out of pocket (Monday would be 8 days). I tell them that is BS (I used more polite language) -- it isn't my fault the parts take this much time to get ordered -- and they suggested I talk to Chrysler and request an extension. I call Chrysler and they tell me that I have to get the dealer to call and make the request, so I had to call the dealer back and get them to call Chrysler and request an extension to my rental coverage beyond 5 days... Why the dealer's service reps don't know they need to do this is beyond me... JW

Ha, they know what their doing. They were betting you wouldn't call Chrysler and just pay. It was much better when dealers just had loners. Oh course, when they had loners us parts dept people used to take them home.

I dropped off the rental anyway and picked up the damn Cobalt now that the clutch is fixed anyway... JW
