i am looking for a selectable locker for my D44 and D30. i really like the idea of the elocker, all electric, no air lines to break, no compressor to buy, no leaks to worry about, easy to repair the wiring if it breaks on the trail and it is used on many production vehicles because of its reliability. since i have already had branches pull out cables i am worried about having to repair air lines and other leaks versus electric wires. talking to eaton today, they plan to have the D30 in production in march, it is on hold right now while they catch up with the D44 orders. i would rather not buy an OX locker. should i just wait until march and get elockers, or go ahead with an order for ARBs?

If you want the E, then wait for the 30 to come out. Personally, I like a good 'ol Detroit or even a LockRight. Fire and forget, that's what I say, then you have nothing to turn on or worry about. You get used to the street handling.

The only thing I wonder about the E-Locker... isn't there like a giant box on the side of it?
Other then that, I kinda agree with your line of thinking.
I had an ARB in my xj... it was OK with a couple of problems.
The newer OX's are nice too... the lever is "pull and forget". You don't have to wiggle it around until it engages like the older ones.

what kind of problems did you see with the ARBs? i believe that you are thinking of the electrac, which was from detroit (maybe), that had the electronics on the outside of the diff case. the e-locker is totally contained within the housing.

Does anyone know what the E locker is rated for? I know it might not mean that much, but something worth checking into. 33's, 37's?
I had the Ox in my old TJ and loved it, even with the old style handle and the cable that was wearing on my brake line and needed to be replaced.
Never had an ARB, so can't talk about it, but you bring up some good points to concider.

Ah, the E-locker sounds better then! The arb was installed in such a way that the copper line rubbed against the diff cover, causing it to leak. After about a year of use, the locker seals started to leak, allowing gear oil into the air lines. So when I shut off the locker and released the solenoid, oil would shoot out the top of it. The copper line was an install error. The shooting oil/seal leaking is a common problem I guess... Easiest thing is to buy a RUBICON! KEV

Last year I broke an ARB carrier in a D35, running 3.73s and 31" tires. Rear end got up in the air and started spinning, when it came down I heard it doing a Rice Crispies imitation (snap, crakle and pop.). There's pics of it somewhere on the Tech board on NEOW.

Well, a dana 35 is a whole different topic... lets not go there! KEV I call BS. I've been beating on my D35 for over a decade. Granted, I run Alloy axle shafts, but she's still holding up. Don just can't drive, that's all...

Maybe he drives it harder then you.... Just based on how I saw Don driving at the Hookey Run, I would suspect he uses ALOT more go pedal than Joe! That probably helps in breaking Dana 35's KEV

Detroit in rear, with super 44 kit. Know a bunch of folks with lockrite in the front, never an issue.

Full time lockers never need worrying about....it's on all the time. no switches, cables wiring, airlines....it's just on and there. End of problem Pros and cons to all of the lockers. You must decide for yourself. Matt's Ox lockers wouldn't engage. It's not to say that the differentials aren't good products. Everything has pros and cons.
