OK..., Well, I ran back to Leominster on my lunch break, and got it.. as soon as i got it back to work the steering froze up on me...( literally, couldn't move the steering wheel at ALL ) so now it sits with the front end on Jackstands in the shop, with the steering box torn apart, trying to figure out what went wrong.. Hopefully i will still make it there, because I think we found out the problem.... time will tell ....

YA right..., One of the bearings in the manual steering box grenaded itself, which in turn spit out its tapered roller bearings into the worm gears in the box and made ONE hell of a mess..!!!! Sorry I missed it guys.. :-) How was it, who all went, and what was there..  ? |

mmmm yeah sorry to hear that Chris i was wondering where my husband was i said he must have got lost somewhere on the way home from work  then i saw your post about your steering probelms so i figured u either got it fixed early and went and david went with u or he was helping u out . I didn't get out of work and get there until 7:45. There was only a handfull of vehicles still there.
I saw a nice red YJ traveling down Rt 20 while I was going there.

Ben and I were the only Bay State Representatives. Together he and I almost made 50% of the event!!! There was only like 6 Jeeps there. I brought a friend of mine from leominster and she was bummed by the poor turn out. Hope it improves and I can get her to go agian.
Hey that was me in Red YJ, I gave up at 7:30 - I thought that might have been you. Sorry we missed each other. I did see you on Rte. 9 about a week or so ago and thought that might have been you also.
Hope the next one is Much Better than this one!

As my wonderful luck would have it.., the local bearing shop in worcester, said the bearing i need went out of production like 20 years ago..!!!! I have a few more places to check, ( eastern bearing in Fitchburg) but its not looking so hot right now..!! :-(

Thanks Kelly for the FYI..!! :-) I actually called ALL over the place, and finally found the 'right" replacement bearings i need in Tennesse. So I bought them, and they are hopefully currently on a UPS truck as we speak, on thier way to me. The bearing that broke hasn't been in production for 20+ years as stated before, but I did some cross referencing and found these other ones that (fingers crossed) hopefully will work, SO In about a week, the Willys will be back to normal.. ( this time with workable steering..LOL!!!!) Also, Sorry to hear that this past show wasn't that great..! Mabey the the weather scared people away.. who knows.. The very first one was cool....I Do know they are having another one in late sept.. I will keep ya posted on the exact date..

Would there be any interest to mabey check out the car show at Kimballs ice cream in Westford on thursday nights..?? If Heberts isn't really working for everyone, Kimballs might..! I went there last night with the TJ and there were TONS of cool stuff there.. There was a Lambo Murcialago ( or however you spell it.. :-) ) a new ford GT. as well as a few other custom Jeeps, and over 120 Hot rods, muscles, and customs.. I realize that it might be a problem for people that get out of work late, because it is a sort of early show ( starts around 5ish ends around 8:30-9ish) but it might be worth checking into, for those that could possibly make it..

Hey too funny I was at Kimball's last night also. I had the Porsche but I didn't enter it in the show or anything. I didn't get there until about 8:15 so things were winding down already.
Yeah I would be interested on another Thursday when I can fit it in.

I'd be able to make it to the Kimball's thing. I actually used to work there, and it's right around the corner from my house  Those nights are actually a lot of fun, I haven't been to one in awhile. |
