so the kilby bracket won't work with a sanden. i guess i can try and find a used york somewhere. hmm... Don't give up yet... I bet with a little careful measuring you could weld some bits on to connect a Sanden with that bracket and it would still work. The Sanded has bolts that connect it which run parallel to the compressor body... Add some tabs to Kilby's plate with holes in the right places and it should work. JW The later model Sanden compressors use four bolts that run vertical to the body. Some measuring and drilling might also work with this bracket

I mounted a Sanded to my bracket. It just required a couple of pieces of 1" angle iron cut and drilled. Works great! Yeah, something like that is what I was thinking... I already have AC, so I'd have to find a longer serpentine belt and figure out a place to put the brackets. Not sure about another idler pulley... I'll be crawling around the XJ this weekend, so I'll take a look at it then. JW

So I'm back to thinking about this again. My plan now is a Sanden with a modified Kilby bracket, in-line tool oiler and coalescing filter. Any suggestions as to a particular year of Sanden that would mount up well? Underhood is so stuffed that the Sanden makes more sense. Any concerns with getting the Kilby belt to work? Are there different types of pulleys out there on Sandens?

so here's the response I got about the adapter bracket from Kilby...
"Oh gotcha. I didn't feel the need to make an adapter for the KE-2000 really. I mean, the Sanden is a good compressor but has drawbacks. The York is a much stronger and faster compressor and has less issues. If we did build an adapter for the Sanden, the Sanden would have to run a serpentine clutch and a lot of guys don't have that style. All in all I felt it's best to just leave the KE-2000 as is.
Thanks, Brad
ryancwilliamson wrote: Brad, I actually meant the adapter bracket, KE-RCA1, to fit a Sanden onto the KE-2000 york bracket. Sorry 'bout that.
Ryan"
What's the serpentine clutch issue? Won't a Sanden off an old YJ/XJ work once I figure out the bracket/mounting?

His answer doesn't make sense to me as the Sanden already has a serpentine belt pulley/clutch in XJ/YJ/TJ applications.

so it's in! I ended up using carefully drilled angle iron, the kilby bracket and a junkyard sanden, works great! HUGE difference in output versus my old electric system. lots of work relocating things, plumbing, electrical, etc, but should be well worth it. one question though, how tight should the belt be? i had to get rid of the tensioner system and am sliding the compressor sideways using a bolt to tighten. it works, but i don't know how much to tighten the belt. obviously i don't want squeaks but i also don't want to wear things out prematurely.

What's all the relays for on your air box?? Just wondering...
Is that a wooden handle that I see??? DANG

Wow nicely done! Looks like you're taking filtered air from the air box? I was thinking about doing the same when I was installing my electric OBA. I ended up not doing it because I wasn't sure if my electric compressor will be able to fight for any air while the engine is running. BTW, did you do anything to return the trapped oil back to the Sanden?

Ryan, You want about 3/8"-1/2" total play on the longest run of belt.
On a side note....
......I thought my XJ was getting tight for space under the hood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the relays are for the OBA, lockers, fog lights, low and high beams (high-wattage bulbs), reverse lights, etc. i used to have a few scattered around but it was much easier to organize/wire them in a row. the handle is actually an axe, i also keep a shovel under there (had it out in the previous pic) i figured it would be easy to pull from the current air filter. the sanden isn't oiled like a york, so i'm planning on adding a little oil before each run and periodically emptying the coalescing filter. sweet, thanks john!
