Bought a Banks cat-back exhaust. Thought it would be a 1 hr install. yeahhhhhhhh............. Problem is, I can't get to the 2 bolts that secure the muffler to the cat. So I figured I'd cut the muffler off so I could get to the 2 bolts, drill them out. Hacked up the muffler, that went nowhere. What I'd like to do is get some help cutting the muffler off with a torch and then I can drill out the 2 bolts. After that it's easy. Bolt on the muffler, one pipe and an exhaust tip. So, anyone have a set of torches and some free time?

Can you get at the flange with an angle grinder or cut-off wheel and grind the heads off the bolts so you can get the pieces apart?

JW Don't have an angle grinder but with my hi-speed cutting wheel, no, can't get to it. Access is real lmited, the xfer skid is in the way and right above it is one end of the muffler. I'd take the skid off but last time I tried one of the captive bolts came loose. My plan was to hack off the muffler so I could get in there with a cutting wheel or a drill, either one would make quick work of the factory retainer. I guess another option to get a foot long drill bit. Didn't spend any time on it today, I was wresting with u-joints on my spare D30 axles

Maybe it is an opportunity to buy a Ryobi 4.5" grinder from Home Depot... They aren't usually too expensive. JW

I'll talk to my son, maybe we can work something out. Or maybe I'll pick up that angle grinder! Sounds like a good excuse to buy more tools! A win-win EDIT - the more I think about it, wow, $40 for a beefy angle grinder! Probably make quick work of that and I have a new toy

Haven't killed it yet Yeah... That is why I've suggested it. I have one too and it seems pretty solid for a $40 tool. Yesterday I exchanged my Husky 1/2" drive torque wrench for a new one... After several years of use the old one started leaking oil. The new one is a lot nicer than the old model was -- seems better made, and is longer for more leverage. It was a no-hassle exchange too, once I found someone from the tool department. Home Depot is pretty good about the warranty on their tools (in my experience). I've exchanged 3-4 tools. JW

"Mike - you want nachos for the game?" "No, I'm going to my GF's to watch the game" So, I end up with a new angle grinder and my son has a new GF. LOL! Works for me!

Carl, your slogan and the first post make me laugh when combined. ;D I can't believe I'm allowed to buy and possess tools of mass destruction But I went to NH to buy the angle grinder. Laws are more lax up there. But there's no way they'll sell me a gun!
