For the amount of hassle it is doing stock type replacement rockers, you'll be better off in the long run to box them in now.
It's 2x5 (tight to the doors) or 2x6 (more protection for the doors) tubing that you'd want to use.

lol, thats kinda the big thing. it was slop when i was there in october, its not going to be too much fun out there now! Some places -- if you walk around and identified the vehicle -- would probably be willing to pick up the vehicle with a machine and cut the axle off w/ a torch and carry it to your car (or at least their parking lot) for a few $. If they'll sell the whole D35 for cheap it may be worth it / easier -- then you just scrap the housing / shafts / etc... at your convenience. That would sort of minimize the time spent in the ick...
