I have a question, first let me explain. I got a new Dell XPS this past October. It came with Vista. When I first got it it had a glitch with the video driver. It was fixed by reinstalling the driver. I just did the Win 7 update a couple weeks ago and a new glitch has appeared. not quite the same as the first one but close. I can't get a screen capture or psr of it so I had to take a physical picture. With this problem I've tried reinstalling the video driver several times and the OS twice, a clean install. issue is still here! the good thing is Dell is sending me a new PC no charge. It's a PITA backing everything up... but I'm happy there standing by there stuff. I'd still like to figure this out though. Any idea other than just a bad video card or MB. ?? BTW, It typically only happens on the active window. It's random, sporadic and can happen in IE, Firefox, Word or photoshop...

It sure looks to be a video driver or video card issue.
Have you tried changing monitors to see if the issue persists?
Have you tried to change the video setting to different: - Refresh rates - Screen Resolution - Color Quality to see if it helps?
Have you installed any hardware it it since it was purchased? If so it could be conflicting with the video board if the is a IRQ or memory issue.

NoHave you tried to change the video setting to different: - Refresh rates Yes - Screen Resolution yes - Color Quality yes, there was also a glitch when i installed 7; the color was very bright, mostly the reds. to see if it helps? Have you installed any hardware it it since it was purchased? If so it could be conflicting with the video board if the is a IRQ or memory issue. No internal hardware, only printers, router, fast Ethernet switch.

Hey Scott,
Can you make it happen frequently enough to try one thing at a time and wait to see if it works?
What did the tech have you try so far? -When it started to happen the first time was it before or after you installed the hardware? -If you have access to a spare monitor, do try attaching an external monitor to see if it happens on that -Did you run the diags for the hard drive (usually you can get to it by pressing F2 on boot up -are they sending you the new laptop before/after you have to give yours back - maybe you could just swap out the HD and see if the problem is solved?

Hey Scott, Can you make it happen frequently enough to try one thing at a time and wait to see if it works? I can't make it happen, it just happens. Sometimes not for an hour, sometimes all the time.
What did the tech have you try so far? All software, drivers and OS. -When it started to happen the first time was it before or after you installed the hardware? All hardware have been installed right from the start.-If you have access to a spare monitor, do try attaching an external monitor to see if it happens on that good idea, two monitors at once! -Did you run the diags for the hard drive (usually you can get to it by pressing F2 on boot up No, I actually have two HD's on it. It's a PC, not a laptop.-are they sending you the new laptop before/after you have to give yours back - maybe you could just swap out the HD and see if the problem is solved? Their sending the new one, then i return this one. So I'm going to mess with this one and try and figure this out just for my own geek-e-ness knowledge. Later today I'm going to try some hardware stuff. Disconnecting all external things, even the router, one at a time. even moving the PC. it's pretty close to a TV, maybe there is some sort of environment interference, although, the last PC in the same spot was okay.

Oh, and they probably already had you do this but, if not right about the keyboard there should be a piece of plastic you can pry off and then remove the keyboard, - try reseating the video cable. I can talk you through if needed.

I don't know wtf your problem is. The screen looks perfectly clear to me. LMAO - somehow, I'm not surprised.... [quote0 It's not a laptop. tower PC [/quote] Opps - I usually ask first, sorry, doing too many things at once!! Do they send out their desktop drives with the diagnostics partition? You could still try it - i meant for you to run the video and mem tests not the HD ones.... Did you get the updated drivers from the Dell site or the manufacturer site? Dell doesn't always have the most updated drivers. And, I'm thinking if it is hardware you can take your current drives, pop them into the new computer and if it doesn't happen again, it was def hardare. if you don't want to wait, see if you can get your hands on a spare video card and pop it in. I had a couple laying around, but they're gone now, sorry... Are they returnable from Best Buy??

I have a spare video card i could try but seeing Dell (I bought it from Dell, had it custom built) is taking it back I don't want to screw with much inside and have them come back and say i screwed it up.

As the owner of 3 macs I can state definitively they are superior to the average offering from Dell, HP, etc...
OS-X is pretty nice too.
