I was wondering who has tried this setup and how they like it and what it cost?

Its just a bit thicker tie rod. It was more commonly used a couple of years ago, when you didn't have a huge selection of aftermarket tie rods. I guess you can find a used on at a junk yard for pretty cheap though. You could also get a big daddy tie rod (same idea - thicker tie rod - stock ends) for a good price. I bought the alumi-flex tbt tie rod about a year ago. Its sorta a gimmicky thing - supposedly it will flex away from any rocks I run into and then just return to normal position after. I did the test at home and jacked the center of the bar up a good amount - it curved nicely and went back to straight! The nice thing about this tie rod, is that it absorbs the impact instead of sending it to the next weakest link - the drag link. KEV

I have the Currie Set up. Beefy stuff. Replaces the entire steering ste up. I think it was $299.00.

Currie steering is more like 399 now You can find it for a bit better then that, but its still alot of money. I was stuck between 600 for the ORO U-turn, the 400 for Currie or the 150 for TBT alumiflex. Ended up the cheaper one and I've been really happy. I definetly drove it into at least one rock this weekend at the hookey run, and it worked like a charm. KEV

Poison Spyder customs has a setup that looks real nice (1.5" diameter, 3/8" wall tubing) for $259 for the TJ/ZJ/XJ. You can buy it in sections if you don't want the whole thing (price above is for everything). www.spydercustoms.com/I was thinking of getting that one for my XJ... It was recomended to me by a local shop. JW

yup, i just loooove my ZJ V8 Tie Rod.... solid stock.... not hollow like the stock xj/tj tie rod... beefier ends too... took quite the beating at the farm (along with the "overpriced" Crane cover)

The poison spyder one... its my understaning that for 250 bucks you get a thicker tie rod (similar to the 60 dollar big daddy rod), larger tie rod ends (similar to 30 dollar dodge ram 3500 ends from napa) and a gusset plate for the stock drag link...
to me it seems over priced for what you get....
For another 100-150 you could get super beef all around with the currie set up.
I really dislike the way psc has you weld on a gusset plate to one small part of the drag link... that just seems like a crappy band-aid.

I was trying to figure out if they were really just reusing the stock drag link... I tend to agree with you Kevin... seems like you should replace that too rather than add a cheezy reinforcement.

I will agree the psc one is too much for what you get. I realy like the Currie set up. I was hoping that the currie drag link was off of a 3500 and could be bought at napa but that does not seem to be the case.

There was a new guy at Saturday's run who had the really modified tan Rubi... Most of his stuff was PSC, but someone said his tie rod/drag link was the Currie setup. I didn't get a chance to ask him, so I'm not 100% sure.
Looked to me like a heavy-duty tie-rod, but the drag link connected to the tie rod instead of at the knuckle...
Is that better than a drag link connection at the knuckle?
I don't have $400 for an upgrade anyway, so...

The currie set up is a direct replacement for the stock steering geometry. It keeps the "Y" shape steering, where the tie rod attaches to the drag link. The currie is slightly bent out a bit I beleive to help clear a few things.
The ends are some annoying piece that you can't easily replace. Its a item they custom order from overseas and you can ONLY buy it from them.
The new "hot" set up is the ORO U-turn steering... alot of people are liking it. It replaces the tie rod and drag link, but also includes two brackets which are installed at the knuckle. The drag link then goes directly to the knuckle bracket. The tie rod then runs all the way from one knuckle to the other. So, you no longer get a change in toe everytime the suspension moves. It was designed for the ORO Airrock system, but many are using it on non-airrocked jeeps.
Apparently it helps eliminate bumpsteer and improves the overall handling and steering feel.

I was looking at the ORO kit at first too (though it costs $650)... A local shop installed one and told me they weren't impressed with the quality. It looked good to me, but I don't have $650 either.

Jon, was it the same local shop that recommended the PSC kit?? Can you give us the initials of the shop, so I can be sure to avoid them! KEV
