Hi Gang, My 9000i warn winch on my 05 Rubicon finally croaked pulling a plow truck out of the snow. Does anyone have any warn links for troubleshooting? The solenoids just click when I try to reel in or out. Think it maybe the solenoids, the motor isn't even trying to turn! maybe it's the remote switch? Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Well this is a first....
NOBODY has any helpful hints for John.
Perhaps everyone is busy shopping! Patience John....it'll happen.

Let's see.... The solenoids are housed in the top of the winch housing above the drum. The positive battery lead goes into the housing and gets switched by the solenoids. 3 big black cables come out of the housing and go to the motor. To determine if it's the hand held controller or the solenoids you'd have to check what's happening on the 3 big black cables comming out of the solenoids. I have the X8000i. I assume it's virtually the same. I can take a meter to mine and see what's happening when the remote control is switched on mine. You could then do the same measurements on yours, If you have voltage on the same points at the same times as I it would indicate that the motor is shot. If you get different readings it would point to a bad solenoid or remote.
John, where are you located? I'd be happy to give you a hand doing these tests if you like. I'm an electrical engineer so this is right up my alley.

because you are too busy talking Jeeps all the time (and trucks)! hehehehe.
read the thread on What do you do...you may learn something!

I dug out the Jeep today and did some measurements for you on on my X8000i.
There are 3 black leads that exit the left side of the solenoid box over the drum. They go to 3 terminals on the motor labeled: A F1 F2
VOLTAGE MEASUREMENTS With the black leads still connected I get the following voltages on the 3 leads/terminals on the motor.
With the remote control in the "winch in" position I measure ~+12 volts DC on all three terminals.
In the "winch out" position I again measure ~+12 volts DC on all three terminals. When the remote is "OFF' (switch not activated) I get ~0 volts DC on all three terminals.
I then disconnected all 3 black leads from A, F1 & F2 on the motor.
With the remote control in the "winch in" position I measure ~+12 volts DC on only the F2 lead. In the "winch out" position I measure ~+12 volts DC on only the F1 lead. When the remote is "OFF' (switch not activated) I get ~0 volts DC on all three leads.
If you don't get the voltages as described above I'd say you have a bad solenoid. If you do see the voltages above then my guess is that the motor is toast.
MOTOR RESISTANCE MEASUREMENTS With all 3 black leads still disconnected from the motor I get the following resistance measurements on the 3 terminals of the motor using a hand held digital multi meter. A to Ground I measure ~3 ohms F1 to Ground I measure ~ 2,000,000 ohms (an open) F2 to Ground I measure ~ 2,000,000 ohms (an open) F1 to F2 I measure ~1 ohm
If you do not get the "A to Ground measurement of ~3 ohms" I'd suspect that you have a failed armature, brush, or brush wire.
If you do not get the "F1 to F2 measurement of ~1 ohm" I'd suspect that you have bad field windings in the motor.

John Ford If the solenoids are clicking when you toggle the remote, then you're remote is probably OK. If you've burned the motor or some of the other electronics I'd imagine you could smell it and/or would ge t smoke... Does anything smell burned? Have you called Warn and asked them about it?
