Does anyone use an alarm in there jeep? If so, is it designed for a convertible? what about when the doors are off?

I have an alarm - although it's a POS. It's actually the second POS alarm I've had. Got both of them through Best Buy. The first was made by black widow, which Best Buy has since discontinued carrying because they had so many people that complained about problems. The second, which i currently have, is made by audiovox.
Both alarms had/ have the same issue - they go off for no reason whatsoever. The car will just be sitting there - sometimes it will chirp, sometimes it will go full out (this mostly happens in the dead of night). Despite being back to best buy multiple times, they could not figure out what's going on. And, being the non-electrical savvy person, I have no idea where to start! And it has nothing to do with the sensitivity of the alarm - Ive tried at ultra high and ultra low.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else had this problem...
In terms of when the doors are off. The alarm is connected to the door pins on the driver and passenger side - same fuse as the dome light. There are a couple of options to deal with this, as, when the doors are off, the "ding ding ding" can get quite annoying. Either take out the fuse, or you can actually get a switch that turns this current off (I think I read on some thread that kevin has one of these).
Sorry for the slight vent above! Hope this helps...
