Shattered a 3/8-16 tap in the back of the jeep this evening, and I don't have enough to get a bite on it w/ vicegrips etc.. Looking for something along these lines: www.sjdiscounttools.com/wlt18001.html

Ouch! Tap extractors are one of the backyard mechanics' uncommon tools. I would probably fit the closest size nut on the end and weld it to the tap. Then use a wrench for removal.

Hmm. ~1/2 inch from the gas tank, I'll skip on that one... I might end up running solo shock in the rear for a short period of time....

Oh well, looks like people will be able to call me one-shock Mike, unless I do something unexpected tomorrow...

I don't understand what/why you were tapping that interferes with your shocks, but if you really want the tap out, you may need to drop the tank and do as I suggested or use a torch. At this point, I doubt you'll be able to get it out cold.

I WAS tapping the upper shock mount holes... I snapped off a bolt in the hole, and was re-tapping it to 3/8s. -mike

That's what self-tapping bolts are for
