Hey all... I was just flipping through my current issue of Four Wheeler Magazine and read a letter that one of the readers wrote. The letter describes a situation where the writer's friend rolled his "LIFTED" Jeep and the insurance company refused to pay since it was "LIFTED" . Apparently, some/most/all? insurance companies require a special rider (which costs more $$ of course), if your Jeep has been lifted. If you don't have it, they won't pay. Anyone else ever hear anything like this before ? Joe

Nope, BUT I am friendly with my insurance lady and you can be sure I'm going to call her tomorrow and ask. Stay Tuned!

Yes... this is a common thing actually. Also, when you call, ask about modifications. I check with my insurance person a yearly basis to confirm how they want my modifications covered. According to my insurance, as long as I have receipts for stuff on my jeep, then I'm covered. I've known several people who have rolled and "adjusted" the actual location of the roll a bit.... or not really mentioned the fact they were climbing a rock face, but instead swerved around a corner. Companies will do anything possible to avoid paying. Just like dealerships trying to blame warranty items on your modifications. Definetly get these things clarified with the insurance KEV

OK, She spoke with the claims dept at the underwriters office and stated that it would not effect my coverage in the event of a roll over as long as it was not during an "organized event" like racing, demolition derby, ect. I guess different insurance company's have different policy's. My major carrier is One Beacon.
Also, As far as covering Modifications cost in the event of a total loss. I don't know, She says that Modifications have in the past only been allowed to be added to the policy for 'Trucks and Vans', so she told me when I get my first receipt for an accessory to give it to her and she will try to add it to my policy. I'll keep you posted on that one, I should have plenty of receipt's in a couple of weeks. ;D

Good stuff.
Also, I like to keep a couple updated pictures of my jeep around also. Not sure if it will actually help at all, but at least I have something to point to when I'm claiming that I have X, Y and Z in my jeep. Or did, right before I drove it off the cliff into the atlantic ocean.
