So for the last week I've noticed my jeep is starting funny.
When I turn the key, it does nothing for about 1-4 seconds and then starts pretty much normal. It doesn't really do it, or not as much, when the engine is has been running.
The engine isn't cranking or trying to start, it just literally isn't doing anything... so I would think that means its something electrical, right?
Some history - got an optima yellow top and new alternator about 3 weeks ago.
Any ideas before I make a dealership appointment?

When you turn the key, in that first 1-4 seconds, what do you see & hear happening in what sequence? Dash lights come on like normal? Clicking noises from the starter solenoid? It kinda sounds like the starter solenoid.
Have you checked the clamps on the battery cables to make sure there both tight & clean? One might have worked its way loose.

Went to Autozone and they did the free battery test. According to them the battery is fine and it must be the starter... Anyway, made any appointment at my friendly dealer for monday and hopefully they'll fix it under warranty. Did I mention I HATE MUD!!! I will NEVER intentionally go play in a giant mud hole again! I can't beleive I went to paragon and broke all this nuts on my jeep because of mud.... how lame is that! I wish I had damaged something because of the rocks instead! KEV

Kev, do you have an alarm system? If yes, check the starter cutoff relay.

sounds to me like a loose connection between battery and starter. if not then def the starter.

Got the starter replaced this morning.
Pulled into Dans Jeep in Westboro at 7:45 am... left at 8:20 with a new starter.
Now that I have a new starter, I think mines been going slowly for sometime. It starts much much more quickly then I was used to. Barely turn the key and it turns right on....
