After doing some wheeling (Mudding) yesterday my starter is now moaning. It starts fine, only moans a little. Could it be hanging? Do I need to pull the starter to clean or is there another way?
It is a Manual transmission (6spd) 4.0

You might as well pull the starter and clean it!!! While on the Paragon trip, I played in the mud. By lunch on the second day, it was dead. Usually, it's the motor half that gets it worse from the mud and water. The starter that died on me is now working fine after taking it apart as much as I could (the front half is a planetary reduction system that I didn't take apart, only flushed out with brake clean and put some grease on the gears). There was plenty on slime and guck in the motor housing and on the rotor. Cleaned everything up in the parts washer, put it back together, "bench tested" it with a set of jumper cables off the battery, and it's now as good or better than before the dunking.

Thanks, I'll do that.
