Ive been getting a lot of emails recently from members who want to know about the Jeep Jamborees.. And I might as well start a thread so everyone can read it.
In or Around 1990 I attended my first jeep jamboree it was mothers day weekend in Bethel Maine..... there were about 60 of Us with various Rigs .. from the tamest of tame... a 1976 4 wheel drive Postal jeep... to a Mini Monster truck.. a willys panel Wagon with Rockwell Deuce and a Half Axels 8 inch lift and sporting a Ford 427 with a 550 hp...so we had a muriad of characters there. I had attended with my 79 Cj7 360 and My Friend Dean with a 1962 Jeep Cab Forward... So here we are the bethel Inn flexing our muscles, you know like the first day of School, wondering who this Guru of 4 wheeling mark Smith is.... and suddely what looks like Marlon Perkins from Mutal of Omahas Wild kingdon shows up in a South Africvan Safari Bush Coat and a Wallabee Downunder one side up flip cap....Wll we broke off into groups 3 differnt ones to be exact...Back then....most of the Jeep Dealerships sent a salesman and a new Jeep from their territory and someone from Jeep Corporate would attend...We had a lot of fun ...back then I think it was 125 a person for trail runs and the meals......All in all I attended 2 In the Spring in Bethel and 2 in the fall in Florida mass they were all a lot of fun but I hear now they arent as fun anymore and they are very expensive... it was fun watching Saleman from Dealerships beat the Snot out of their Stock Jeeps... and people who have never been offroad flipping ..... only a few of us had 1st aid kits and axes and towsraps without metal hooks....But Alas I hear all that has changed now,,its the old hurryup and wait on the trails,,, and its become more of a commercial enterprise for Mark Smith rather than a learning experiance for someone new to offroading....250.00 for 4 box lunches and 2 dinners and trail riding???...Its much more fun just by paying the 50 dollar dues to Baystate and being with folks who will work together well and learn from each other..... leading to lasting friendships
