I need to more or less rebuild the front axle on my TJ. I need to put in new ball joints, u joints, hubs, rotors and brake pads on both sides of the front end. I'm comfortable with the brakes but the u-joints, ball joints and hubs are new to me. The jeep is not at the moment street legal but I do have access to my neighbors garage which has a full lift. I live in Westford MA and will be more than happy to buy some beer for anyone that helps as well as provide lunch of pizza, burgers whatever. Also if you need a pair of hands in the future lifting or whatnot I will be happy to pay you back in kind. I know this weekend is the Fall Crawl so I don’t know if people will be available but I can do either of the next two Sundays if anyone can help. Also anyone that wants to learn along with me is more than welcome to join. As I understand it U-joints are a somewhat common failure so doing it on clean level ground is a good way to know learn to do it. I have some other punch list items with the drive train and a water pump that I need some help and or advice on as well so anything people can help me tackle is greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff

I should be able to help on Sunday 9/13 or Sunday 9/20. (Saturday 9/19 is a club run.)
You'll need to "borrow" a good ball joint press. AZ or Advanced Auto loan-a-tool...

Does your neighbor have a shop press? I would highly recommend one for u-joints; makes life so much easier! You can pick up a shop press from harbor freight for relatively short $, or just their u-joint tool. You can also modify the axles for full circ clips while they're out, but probably not worth it unless you run large tires and like to use the skinny pedal...
I may be able to make it, just let me know what day works for everyone else!

I can prolly help, can't commit right now but I'll help if I can. I've done a few ball joints and u-joints and I can bring a compressor if that helps. Don't have much in the way of power tools (some dirtbag thief took those off my hands) but I have an air hammer and pickle fork
edit: can't do it this Sunday, doing the fall crawl thang. But looks like you have some talent lined up!

Id love to do it this sunday so I can go to the run at MA bell next week if that works for you. will send my addess later by PM when im "not at work" Thanks! Jeff

I've done all of these repairs previously... I may be available for a few hours Sunday. Let me know if that is when you guys decide to do it.
Westford isn't that far.

What do you have for tools?? Also, what is wrong with the hubs??? Kurt... if he is replacing his ujoints, anything he needs to know regarding new ones?? bearings are toast from running 33s with offsets. I have a 1/2" torque wrench and a few addl ratchets. A decent set of open and box end, and a bunch of assorted basic stuff. Im not set up as a mechanic per se. The shop has a lot of tools and Im sure my neighbor wont mind me using things as long as I put things back where I found em. hes got compressors and a good set of tools including welding etc so he's able to repair heavy equipment and such himself. Feel free to bring anything you feel is useful though as you never know. 10am works for me. I'll have the heap on the lift, tires off and as much beyond that as I can get to by 10am I think I sent PMs to everybody that said they would like to come up till now. if I didn't hit you I apologize and please let me know and I will send you my contact info. thanks! Jeff
