So, I'm told that in the past it has been discussed before hand who would like to run for any of the seats on the board.
As we all know, elections are coming up, would anyone like to be considered "in the running" or nominate someone to do a certain position?
Elections will be held at the fall meeting. You have to be present to vote, and to run. Just so you all know. If you haven't rsvp'd yet for the meeting/appreciation day, it is imperative that you do! NOW.
I officially nominate Kevin to run again for Treasurer.
This doesn't mean nobody can run against him, it's just that he would accept running again.
What say ye Kevin?

Ahhh, Gosh Kelly....
I've been thinking about running again, and have decided that I would like to remain treasurer.
So yes, thank you, I accept the nomination.

Well, I think you've done a GRRRREAT job with the Events this year. The meeting locations are MUCH better then the libraries of past! So, I'd like to nominate you for Director of Events for 2006! KEV

So.....anyone else like to step forward for consideration from the masses of Mass?
C-mon! The water is fine! A healthy club depends on the folks that belong to the club, and those that do the behind the scenes stuff.

Elections will be held at the fall meeting. You have to be present to vote, and to run. Why do you have to be present to run? Is that a new rule? I know that you must be present to vote except if you are absent due to club business, allowing you to proxy vote.

I would have to say that if a person wanted to run for something and couldn't make the meeting, contact the Secretary or have someone nominate you online on either this board or the club email. Once seconded, he/she should be good to go.
I seem to remember a few votes over the years that went to people who couldn't be present at the meeting.
BTW, I wouldn't vote for Kevin if you paid me....hey, wait a minute. He DID pay me...lol

Go to by-law 13.1.1.5 "There will be no recognition of write-in candidates during the voting process......" This is how I understand it. Discussion: If the person is not there, then how will the rest of the club know if they truly are accepting this office. What if they are not there and an item regarding this office comes up for discussion, that absent nominee might have a change of heart, but we wouldn't know! I don't know, I think if you really wanted to hold an office, that you'd be there to accept it. Also, it shows a commitment to the club to hold an office and attend the meetings. Maybe I'm wrong, but as I understand the by-laws, it looks like you have to be there. We could ask Max? (For those of you who aren't familiar, Paul Maxwell and the old board/officers wrote up the by-laws and he'd probably be the best one to ask.) For now, Sharon

I'd like to nominate Paul Maxwell for President.
Max has been very involved with not only our club from the beginning, but the NEA4WDC and a few other clubs, plus the White Mountain National Forest thingy, etc., etc.. He's well versed, knowledable, a hell of a photographer and fair to those he comes in contact with.
What do you say Max?

For now, Sharon A write-in candidate is not the same as a nominated person who couldn't be voted upon due to meeting absence. A write-in is when a voter pencils in someones name who has not been nominated. In other words, if someone put my name down instead of the nominated choices for that position, the vote would be discarded. If a nominated person (who accepted the nomination previous to the meeting, online or otherwise) could not make the meeting, for whatever reason, why would they not be able to be voted on? If the club members trusted the individual enough to nominate them, I don't think that missing one meeting would be enough to jeopardize their commitment. Anyway, I guess my opinion could be taken with a grain, as I'm not even a member this year (so don't write my name on any ballots people!). It was just something I noticed. I will see you at next month's trail ride though. -Joe

Max, I know you and I have chatted before about you being on the Board. If you are saying what you are for the same reasons as before, I understand. If you are saying it's not going to happen because you don't think you'll get the votes...then I think you should try it....you might be surprised.
