A write-in candidate is not the same as a nominated person who couldn't be voted upon due to meeting absence. A write-in is when a voter pencils in someones name who has not been nominated. In other words, if someone put my name down instead of the nominated choices for that position, the vote would be discarded. If a nominated person (who accepted the nomination previous to the meeting, online or otherwise) could not make the meeting, for whatever reason, why would they not be able to be voted on? If the club members trusted the individual enough to nominate them, I don't think that missing one meeting would be enough to jeopardize their commitment. Anyway, I guess my opinion could be taken with a grain, as I'm not even a member this year (so don't write my name on any ballots people!). It was just something I noticed. I will see you at next month's trail ride though. -Joe X2 (Joe, I really miss the BOD meetings/discussions we used to have. ;D )

Thanks Kel, but I have to decline. I'd love to, but just can't make the commit with two little ones now at home. Besides, I think ALL the current BOD members are top notch and wouldn't want to change a thing. Jeff

well, voting takes place for a reason. We can't keep the same ol, year, after year, after year after year....or shouldn't anyway. No matter how good people do their jobs. Things get stangnant that way. Granted, everyone knows what to do after a season or two on the BOD, but new input is important for a progressive club. It's great to know how to run things, but the same thing all the time would kill us.
Same goes for regular politicians...don't want the good ol' boy thinking.

I didn't attend any runs this past year and therefore didn't have a chance to talk to many of you so I'm not sure who would be interested in helping move this club in a positive direction. Speaking for myself.... It would be nice to hear from someone who is even just "thinking" about taking on such a role. I'm sure the existing and prior BOD members will support and help guide any new people that want to give it a try. If you've never served on a BOD before, you should know that these types of roles help build life long organizational skills which can be applied towards your job and personal life. They also give you a good chance to test your management and communication skills with your peers. You never know, you might uncap a hidden potential that you've always knew you had but never had a chance to test I wish I had time from my busy work schedule to jump into it myself Sooo.. with that said, if anyone would like to be nominated for a position, please feel free to PM me and I'd be more than willing to nominate you. Best, Marty ps.. see you all at the meeting.../mc edit: should have used spell check...

Hi Guys, Bear with me....just learning how to use this forum!
Speaking of nominees, elections and officers, I hope to introduce a motion at the meeting that will compensate Officers for all the hard work and time. Last year we voted for 1 year terms which hopefully has attracted candidates wary of a 2 year committment. This year: "Any Officer of the Club will be exempt from paying dues for the year immediately following each term of office."
While passage is not guaranteed.... may attract some new candidates! Watcha think???

Paul,
so the BOD member gets the NEXT year free? not the current year in which they serve?
I guess I mis-understood the motion and vote then.
I assumed it was for a free membership for the current year.

This is a proposed motion for Oct 22 meeting. There has been no motion or vote! Problem with "current year" is if someone steps down midyear or is awol from their duties. How do other orgs do it?

Kev,
Just learned through the grapevine that a motion similar to the above has gone before the BOD! Hence, the confusion.......
That's what I get for thinking out loud at the Dinner Table!

Paul, we have been chewing on this for over a week now.... I'm all for it, but I see your point about the "current year" vs "following year". In the past some have stepped down, but, since there is nothing "spent" does it matter? Things change in people's lives all the time, do we hold it against them? Not sure.
Some folks may not be around the following year they serve...again, things change...family, health, job... does this mean they get "nothing" if they leave? While I realize this is a Perk, it is still a bit of a slap in the face if it isn't used the year they serve.
How about, if you step down, to remain in the club, you pay a pro-rated sum for the remaining portion of the year? I'm hoping most people that take on the "jobs of the Board" are serious folks, so this would not be a huge issue, and that it would be an extreme case of they must step down.
Curious.

OK, if Max doesn't want to play, then my next pick would be Mr. Matt Boliver. Matt (& Lori) are always around for various stuff that happens and has been with the club for a long time as well, so............ Matt, I'd like to nominate you for the 2006 President. (Just keeping this subject going). Does anyone else have nominations? SP

Sharon, Good choice, Matts' a great guy, but is he logged into the site yet? I just checked all the registered members and didn't see any user name that would be his.
Kev?
